If you hadn’t known before, McDonald’s has often used its San Diego-based restaurants as a testing ground for a handful of new ideas. What’s next on the world’s largest burger chain’s list for keeping up with the tastes of the country? Sriracha and Big Mac Special Sauce.

The special spicy sandwich is slated to be made with white cheddar, kale, spinach, crispy onions, tomato and a secret blend of Sriracha and traditional Big Mac sauce. The flavor option is part of the restaurant’s signature crafted menu that aims to give guests more options when ordering.

Other sauces offered include Maple Bacon Dijon and Pico Guacamole, each bringing a more customized flavor to your sandwich or burger.

This Huffington Post article covered America’s Sriracha obsession, posing the question if McDonald’s would be the next brand to carry a Sriracha-based condiment. It’s finally taken them three years, and Sriracha is popular enough to be a standard at the test locations at McDonald’s, as well as nationwide at many other restaurants across the country.

The signature menu items are available for a limited time at participating restaurants in San Diego County.
