What's Your Top 10 Favorite Hot Sauces?

What's Your Top 10 Favorite Hot SaucesIt's time for yet another list, but this time out it's going to be quite the undertaking! To help out, I've asked several of my chilehead and industry friends to join in this gargantuan task. What's the topic? It's everyone's top 10 favorite sauces of all time!

To some heat fanatics, it can be as easy as pie, and many already had a good idea in their noggin of what their top spicy items already were. For others, such as myself, it's like trying to pick two or three favorite children out of a room crammed full of youngsters. It hurts like crazy, but the list had to be whittled down to a mere 10 (or 11 in a few cases...) choices.

What qualifies to be put on a favorites list? They must be amongst our top ten liquid "flavor enhancers" of most any classification, purpose or usage; they can be a hot sauce, BBQ sauce, salsa, condiment, marinade, cooking sauce, wing sauce and more. It is simply what the person considers to be the creme de la creme of spicy-type sauces. A qualifying sauce needs to have been commercially available at one point, but it does not matter if it's still in production or currently defunct.

To further clarify, I've requested that everyone's favorite products be "as is", straight out of the bottle or jar. What I was NOT looking for were combinations of different products or different ingredients. We foodies sometimes dabble with items in the kitchen such as, just for example, taking three parts cayenne pepper sauce, mixing it two parts BBQ sauce, and then adding a pinch or two of habanero powder to make a terrific rib glaze. By eradicating these recipes it helps readers of this post better obtain the saucy suggestions instead of trying to play mad scientist in an attempt to duplicate what someone had liked.

Lastly, to make it a bit easier on everyone, I've given the stipulation that the sauces on any of these lists need NOT be in any particular order.

To see what everyone picked was fascinating. People were more than welcome to choose their own products (if they themselves were a sauce manufacturer), but I was still intrigued that so many picked others' wares, showing a vast love and respect for their fellow entrepreneurs in the spicy foods biz.

Without further ado, here are what these fine folks consider to be their favorite spicy sauces of all time...

Great article and compilation of some of the BEST sauces EVER!! Like I told you and you mentioned, damn this was hard. To narrow down to just 10 was incredibly difficult for me. And now reading some of the other lists, I am like Son of a...!! I should have included that one in mine, lol!! Great Job Man!! I look forward to trying and retrying some of the GREATS. Newbies, print these lists... This is the who's who and a great place to start YOUR addiction to Hot Sauce!!

One thing is certain. The diversity of taste is pretty striking. In the same post, you have people giving the highest praise from everything from Frank's Red Hot to Cholula to Blair's & CaJohns sauces. Quite eclectic to say the least. To the person that said Dave' Gourmet was not represented, Dave's Hurtin' Habanero made Butch's list...and is probably my fave sauce from Dave as well.

There are SOOOO many great products that I wish I could have listed but couldn't. CaJohns is getting a lot of love from people, and I realize that 3-4 of his products would be on my list if I were able to expand it to a top 20 (such as the Bourbon Infused Chipotle-Habanero Hot Sauce, the Wing Sauce 10 and Ace Hot Sauce).

Chad, you make some outstanding products for Race City. Your Lucky Dog Habanero Mustard is my favorite mustard, and it would be in my top 15. You also have a lot of sauces I would consider to be 4.5 - 5 stars out of 5, but unfortunately there's not room for everything.

One of the world's hottest made without extract.

Scovilla’s Hot Gourmet Fiery Bandito, 5oz *)
I’ve tasted many good Chipotle hot sauces but our own one's still the best.

Scovilla’s Hot Gourmet Wild Habanero, 5oz *)
A great allrounder. Crushed Habanero with a little bit orange juice. 4,5 of 5 stars by Scott.

Scovilla`s Hot Gourmet Savina Kiss, 5oz. *)
My personal reference for a hot chili sauce. A real "burner" and Scovie Award winner.

TobagoKeys Peruvian Gold Grilling Sauce, 12oz.
Not really a hot sauce, but a great Caribbean taste of a bbq sauce. One of my all time faves.

II want to add one more to my above list:

Dragonfire's Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce

I have only had one bottle of this and it was quickly stolen from my house - so I did not have it on my radar when I wrote my list. But if you like sweet heat - give this one a try.

I am not sure if I have a top 10 per say, but Blair's After Death and Mad Dog 357 Ghost Pepper edition are DEFINITELY on there.

Then there are some sauces that may not be all that good but on the right thing they're absolutely perfect. For example, I made some chili, with some brown sugar, chipotle chili powder and ancos and Mad Dog Inferno Reserve was perfect with that chili, but on a lot of other things, there are better hot sauces.

I just opened a few new ones which are definitely on my list too:

Crazy Uncle Jester's Louisiana Firestorm... absolutely fantastic tasting sauce... probably the best tasting Louisiana style hot sauce I have ever had in addition to being one of the hotter ones.

I hit submit too early...

Melinda's Naga Jolokia -- about as hot as it gets for a non-extract sauce, and tastes fantastic!

Marie Sharps Hot Habanero sauce - great tasting milder sauce.

Melinda's Fire Roasted Habanero & Garlic - another milder sauce, but with a great taste.

Tears of the Sun Hot Sauce is the best I've ever had...I havent really been into hot sauce until I got inpsired by High River. The mix of fuit and habenaro peppers gives it an amazing blend. Grapes of the wrath I haven't tried yet but thankfully it's being shipped to me soon...heard it's so good people keep going for more. Both these sauces were created by someone who I've been a huge fan of since my childhood and it's been great for him to have been able to share his culinary side away from the rockstar role!
