What Are Your Favorite Defunct Hot Sauces and Brands?

It's inevitable in just about any business niche, and there is certainly no exception in the world of fiery foods: flux is constant, and change happens on an almost daily basis.

For chileheads, one very noticeable piece of evidence for this, is that certain hot sauces disappear, or worse, entire companies go out of business.

In the case of the former, it's usually the obvious case that a particular product did not sell very well.

When it comes to the later, it's far more complicated to pinpoint why companies up and fold. For vast majority of the cases, it's that the budding sauce makers have to contend with the stress of having full-time jobs, families, various other extracurricular activities, and quite honestly, having the headache of trying to bankroll a brand new spicy foods company and trying to find time to promote it. Often they actually lose money trying to get their business off the ground. So it's either sacrifice all their time and money with their other career (that actually pays the bills) and family, or quit. As much as it hurts us hot sauce fanatics, it's just the cold, hard reality of the world.

So what are YOUR favorite sauces and companies that are no longer available? What are the ones you sorely miss? Let everyone know about them in the comments section below!

I would have to say there are some CaJohn labels but they just got switched into another sauce so the ingredients are still exactly the same.

With that said, I do miss something that I guess just didn't sell enough.
Sweet Agony was a company that use to make some great syrups for desserts. The INCINNerator was my favorite one! I would use it on ice cream all the time.

While this isn't a hot sauce it was still great for the chile head industry.

Nick, that is incorrect. I have neve retired a label only to introduce it under another label. I can't help it if you like something and no one else does. Things have to go away when they don't sell...

It's funny, two of the three pictures on top (lava and possible side effects) are two of the most frequent requests I get.

The others:
Inner Beauty
Lottie's yellow
Cholula dry seasoning
Dat'l do it wing sauce

My personal missing favorite (although only temporarily) is Picapeppa Red.

Jamaican Black Mustard. Great flavor and heat. Bought one jar and have been looking for it ever since.

A lot of AMAZING products have ingredients that are just not cost effective to sell....I love the fruit base salsa, but can't justify the cost. There was a company who made the best pepper jams that I would LOVE to have in my fridge daily* and if you do want fruit based...you get what you pay for~

I was addicted to 99% Meltdown way back in the day but since Original Juan's went to the "Pain " series, I'm pretty sure they stopped Meltdown. IT WAS GOOOOOD.

I'm bummed about the Cheater 5 sauces - I love banana in any hot sauce!
