Tabasco TV Commercials From the 1960s

Here's a blast from the past: a pair of Tabasco Sauce TV commercials from the 1960s. They provide a decent overview on how to integrate Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce into drab the American cuisine of the mid-20th Century. Fascinating to note that heavy emphasis is placed on Tabasco as being a "seasoning" in foods as opposed to just a "splash-on" condiment.

The second one is different in some ways. What struck me was that even back then when this appeared on U.S. television almost 50 years ago, Tabasco was around 100 years old, as mentioned in the clip!

How could you even taste a 1/2 tsp Tabasco in a whole pound of ground beef? Two drops in a whole bowl of soup is equally suspicious.

I believe the difference back then is that the American pallette was more sensitive and refined than it is now. In other countries, Americans are well known for completely over-seasoning our foods. I have noticed at some markets that we do, the older generations always comment on spicy our sauces are, even when the younger ones want it even hotter. Maybe that's the difference?
