September 2009 Poll: Do You Prefer Chili With or Without Beans?

The debate has been raging on for decades, and I've recently been reminded of it again by the comments section of a review posted on The Hot Zone Online - do you prefer chili to have beans or no beans?

I sorta grew up eating chili with beans and didn't think about it until I had more traditional Southwest "chile" which was blissfully bean-free, and full of heat and flavor. Given a choice, I'd always take that over the bean-laden variety.

I'm no connoisseur like you Scott, but I'm going to say that chili without beans, really isn't chili at all...

p.s. The match captchas are really hard in the mornings...

You guys are nuts. Any real chili will not contain beans. Look through the list of winners for the International Chili Society World's Championship Chili Cookoff: http://www.chilicookoff.com/Winner/Winner_Champions.asp?Cat=1

I doubt if a single one of their recipes will have beans in it.

Right on, Chileman. If you get a nice bowl of Texas Red, you'll soon say to yourselves, "Beans? What are beans"? ;)

As a true Texas lover of chili con carne and official Terlingua judge, I can say "if you know beans about chili, you know chili has no beans. Pinto beans are loaded with protein and iron and is a nutritious vegetable. I love beans with chile sauce. To each his or her own. This is fun.
