Review - Thai Fuzion Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce

Thai Fuzion Sweet and Spicy Dipping Hot Sauce

Here's another product that widened my eyeballs with interest and anticipation when I received a review bottle of it: Thai Fuzion Sweet and Spicy Dipping Hot Sauce. It looked to be a promising harmonization of Asian flavors with what the name implies, spicy and sweet elements, to it as well. As eager as I was to try this, the review of this was a couple of months in the making. So here it is finally - my take on Thai Fuzion.

Ingredients:
Water, Sugar, Lime Juice, Cilantro, Salt, Sesame Seed Oil, Thai Chiles, Seasonings, Oyster Extractives, Vinegar, Corn Starch, Wheat Flour, Caramel Color and Natural Flavors

Aroma:
2.5 out of 5. Like a strange melage of salty soy sauce, the fainest presence of chile peppers and a vague vegetable-like smell (perhaps I was mentally picturing Thai Fuzion on some stir fry?). This is by no means offensive to the nose but it didn't seem too appetizing.

Texture and Appearance:
4 out of 5. This sauce is a lovely brown blend with a killer consistency. I dig how it's a snap to pour on any dish and will fit every nook and cranny, yet it's clingy and dense enough to stick to it. Whether you're using this as a dip or as a food topper, this will fit most any application as a finishing sauce and condiment.

Taste Straight Up:
3.5 out of 5. A quick lick reveals a wide range of flavors intermingling. There was an immediate rush of sweetness, a smidgen of vinegary brightness, a minor blast of heat, plenty of a salty punch that's typical in any good soy sauce, and even a trace of a horseradish/wasabi-like taste. Whew! It does a fine job marshaling most of the flavors without having any one domineering taste lord over the others.

That having been said, Thai Fuzion Spicy and Sweet Hot Sauce was really nothing that heavily impressed me. I was looking for something more, maybe a with a teensy bit more punchiness in every aspect. Perhaps what this sauce needed was food to go along with it.

Taste on Food:
3 out of 5. This product's first test was some ginger breaded fish along with some seasoned rice. Decent work by the Thai Fuzion on this. The salty and spicy elements of the sauce shined through but I felt the sweet and savory attributes got buried, thereby throwing the aforementioned balance off-kilter slightly. Still, this wasn't too bad.

Next up were egg rolls. The sauce performed much better on these. I will admit that I like a much sweeter dipping sauce with my egg rolls, whether it's a standard sweet and sour sauce or something with a little more spiciness to it. Thai Fuzion's "tour of the tastebuds" approach may be enough for me to look for other flavors to combine with egg rolls than my old stand-bys, albeit only every now and then.

Heat:
There's enough fire to qualify this as a spicy sauce. But make no mistake about this; Thai Fuzion is geared towards a larger consumer demographic, not just the hardcore chileheads. There's a small dosage of warmth, enough to rate a 1.5 on a scale that goes to 5.

Label:
4 out of 5. Appealing look. It has Asian elements, with a slick, modern, Western-ized edge.

Overall: 3.0 stars

Thai Fuzion Spicy and Sweet Dipping Sauce offers many things and is a quintessential example of the name "fusion" (or it's alternate spelling with the "z"). It boasts great balance, but I unfortunately think that some of the flavors disappear or get too toned down when added to certain meals.

A list of establishments that Thai Fuzion is available can be found at the Thai Fuzion website. The sauce can also be ordered online from that link as well.

I reviewed this sauce last night with Vic Clinco, I found it a very interesting sauce. Loved it.

I second Linda's question. I bet it'd be great on sushi!
