Review - Kentucky's Smokin' Grill Concentrate Too Hot for You! Barbecue Sauce

Kentucky's Smokin' Grill Concentrate Too Hot for You! Barbecue Sauce

Kentucky's Smokin' Grill Concentrate Too Hot for You! is a local KY sauce that aims to be something that would "set people on fire", or so claims owner David Kleckner. Since I'm as much of a fan of flavor in foods as I am of fire (perhaps more so), I wanted to see if this could achieve the best of both worlds.

Ingredients:
Tomato, Brown Sugar, Natural Spices, Pepper, Garlic, Salt, Orange Peel, Onion, Water, Vinegar, Honey or Molasses, Natural Hickory Smoke & Hot Pepper Extract

Aroma:
Not very surprising - a felicitous, smoky-smelling BBQ sauce.

Appearance and Texture:
3.5 out of 5. A relatively drippy, medium brown-colored liquid. Plenty of bits of spices abide in the mix just like The Dude.

Taste Straight Up:
3 out of 5. A small bit of richness with heavy tomato, garlic, and smoky overtones. It's pretty good, but certainly not remarkable. What anyone who would try this sauce would tell you - it's very hot! I must note that despite the fact that this contains pepper extract to provide the heat, Kentucky's Smokin' Grill did a fine job of masking the usual bitter, chemical-like flavor attributes of extract (and for that matter, it had no odor of it, either).

Taste on Food:
I grilled up a juicy li'l chicken breast and shredded it. Next, I drizzled large amounts of Kentucky's Smokin' Grill Too Hot for You! and mixed it up until most chicken shreds were good and covered with Too Hot for You!. It did the meat justice even though it certainly was not the most flavorful sauce I've ever consumed.

Suggested Uses: Anything you would normally apply BBQ sauce to would be okay with Kentucky's Smokin' Grill Concentrate - beef, hog, chicken and other types of commonly grilled animals.

Heat:
3.5 out of 5. The extract-derived fire will definitely make this too hot for some. It very well may be in the handful of the hottest BBQ-style sauces I've ever tasted. The heat coats your whole mouth and tongue and doesn't let go for upwards of ten-plus minutes. There's some sweet, flaming pain after eating a lot of this!

Overall:
Worth a try if you're craving intense heat with a decent BBQ taste. This won't replace my old saucy standbys, though.

You can get this and other KY Smokin' Grill sauces and products at stores listed here (mostly in the state of Kentucky), or on a smattering of online destinations for around $6 - 8. Comes in an 18oz. jar.
