Review - Fat and Skinny Brand Inferno XXX Hot Sauce

Fat and Skinny Brand Inferno XXX Hot Sauce

Fat and Skinny Brand was a maker of hot sauces largely ignored by the bloggers who attended the 2010 Weekend of Fire show. That fact is quite a shame, as they in my opinion did not possess culinary virtuosity the way a CaJohn's does, I think they still held great promise with what they had concocted.

Case in point was their Inferno XXX Hot Sauce; it's a super scorcher of a chile sauce that successfully marries a balance of subtle and not-so-subtle flavors with an arsenel of peppers that include habaneros and bhut jolokias.

Ingredients:
Vinegar, Habanero Peppers, Red Peppers, Anaheim Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Ghost Chili Powder, Tomatoes, Orange Juice, Garlic, Water, Onions, Lemons, Limes, Sea Salt, Ancho Chili Powder and Cumin

Aroma:
4 out of 5. Great smell, and not overpowering in any measure! It's a whirlybird melange of sweetness and vinegar mixed with a variety of chile pepper scents.

Appearance and Texture:
4 out of 5. Inferno XXX Hot Sauce delivers the goods with a nice brownish look and a hefty, slightly chunky consistency. It pours wonderfully out of the bottle and clings to just about any food to which you'd apply this hot sauce.

Inferno XXX Hot Sauce in the crook of the thumb: specks of color give it vibrancy, and nice pepper pieces supply an overall diverse and thick texture.

Taste Straight Up:
4 out of 5. Another win for this sauce. I was vaguely reminded of a well-rounded, sweet, tangy n' tart condiment like Dragon's Blood Elixir, but with a stronger performance from the grouping of chiles involved. Upon first bite, there's the initial burst from the vinegar, rapidly followed by a complex burst of twang and then a long finish by the peppers, and then it's virtually all heat after that. That aspect is certainly not a deficiency, as remnants of the other ingredients remain on your tongue as you get touched by the fire. Yummy and smoldering stuff.

Taste on Food:
4 out of 5. I wanted to give this a go on a few different items. First was a standard boneless buffalo wing covered in with a mild sauce. A terrific amount of fire was added while not completely masking the flavor of the breading or the chicken breast piece.

Next was a grilled salmon steak seasoned with crushed black pepper. I enjoyed the powerful added infusion of flavor and heat with each and every scrumptious bite.

Lastly, grilled shrimp was up at bite. It fared slightly less glowingly with Fat & Skinny's Inferno XXX Hot Sauce, yet still benefited from the taste and the fire blast.

Heat:
3.5 out of 5. Of course the bhut jollokia, AKA ghost chile, is given heavy emphasis on Fat and Skinny's website. Not a problem there, as there is substantial heat in this product. But a bulk of the sauce's flavor and burn is derived from the other peppers present.

The Inferno XXX is NOT for the weak-tongued. This bottle packs quite a bit of incendiary power. Although it's nowhere near the caliber an extract sauce is, this would definitely be at the upper end of medium/hot for advanced chileheads, and at the upper end of extra hot sauces for fair-weather spice fans.

Label:
3.5 out of 5. The eye-popping colors and fonts may help this stand out if it were on a specialty store shelf. I liked it.

Overall: 4.0 stars

A standard 5 oz. bottle of Fat and Skinny Brand Inferno XXX Hot Sauce runs for $6.00 plus shipping at the Official Fat and Skinny Brand website. I would say it's well worth it if you're in the mood for lip-numbing heat with great flavor to go along with it.

Great looking sauce and great review as always.

A little bit disappointed to see that Fatty and Skinny won't ship outside of the USA though.
