New Mexico Magazine recently held a contest to figure out what was the very best salsa the Land of Enchantment state had to offer. 28 different brands pitted battle against one another as three distinguished judges "blind"-tasted salsa from all walks of life, including normal tomato-based varieties, smokey ones, fruity salsas and black bean & corn offerings.

The following video is a quick behind-the-scenes look at how the judging was done.

Who was the unanimous winner? It was none other than our friend Art "Xero" Weingaertner of Xerarch's Foods with his Nice 'N Hot Salsa. Congratulations! Go to Xerarch's website to order this or many of his other fine products.

The judges also gave three other New Mexico salsas "Notable" awards, and they all happen to be produced by another one of my favorite salsa makers, Santa Fe Seasons. Congrats to them as well.
