New Contest - I Want YOU to Redesign ScottRobertsWeb.com!

New Contest - I Want YOU to Redesign ScottRobertsWeb.com!You know, the current design for ScottRobertsWeb.com has been around for four years now. Yikes! In internet terms, that is absolutely ancient! While I think the old girl has held up pretty well, it's time for a fresh coat or two of paint to be applied to the basic blog framework.

Many of you know that I've been in the web development/design field for 15 years. I've build dozens of websites for others, numerous websites for myself, and even helped out with many blogs in the hot sauce realm. Now I feel it's time for me to take a step back and let YOU redesign it! In fact, I've gathered together a pretty sweet and unique prize pack to give who I think does the best job of redesigning the site!

What I'm Looking For

I'm looking for a new skin for the website...something that's CLEAN, SHARP, VIBRANT and MODERN. It should be bold and exciting yet easy to use and navigate.

If you did not know, ScottRobertsWeb.com is NOT a Wordpress blog. It's my own custom PHP blog creation that I've been using since 2007.

Here are some more rules/guidelines:

  • Make it look slick, fresh and modern, but the text copy on the page should be easy to read and scan.
  • I want to keep the exact same ScottRobertsWeb.com logo. I would be very open to perhaps putting the logo on different backgrounds or presenting it in a different way.
  • I still want to keep red/black/white in the color palette to some extent. Other colors and amounts of them used are up to you.
  • I'm open to removing my face from the header and from the site. However, if you can think of a new, clever, fun, and cool way of integrating a cartoonish picture or actual photo of me, I'd be open to that as well.
  • I'm not interested in new features such as JavaScript sliders. What I'm looking for is a template to snugly fit over the existing divs.
  • No Flash.
  • No excessive bleeding-edge bells and whistles that might only work in one or two web browsers. This should have clean CSS and HTML code that MUST work with ALL browsers, many screen resolutions, as well as work nicely on a mobile format and on tablets.
  • I would like to keep somewhat of the two column look for the main part of the blog - the larger section for the content, and a right sidebar for links and ads. How you would build around this would be up to you.
  • The winner's design will become property of ScottRobersWeb.com, including HTML, CSS, all graphics and PSD files. If you happen to use any funky fonts, send them to me for future usage, and they must be Windows compatible.
  • Whatever content and links are up on the site currently is what I would like to keep.
  • You can enter as MANY designs as you want!
  • Be creative, and WOW me!

The Prizes

What does the winner get?

  • $250 in cash, payable to your PayPal account
  • Exposure to you and your web design business (if you have one) when I make the blog post, plus exposure through Twitter tweets, Facebook status updates and more the day I announce the winner.
  • A permanent link in the footer on every page of my website to the winner's website.
  • Last but certainly not least, you get to win ALL of the following spicy goodies from the following excellent fiery foods makers:

How to Enter

  • E-mail me at scott@scottrobertsweb.com your first and last name, company name (if applicable), your street address, city, state and zip, phone number, and the e-mail address you use for PayPal.
  • You can submit your design in one of two ways:
1) A private link to a working HTML mockup page, or
2) You can attach a graphical screen shot (can be a .jpg, .png, etc.) image to the e-mail.
  • All submitted designs MUST be an example page that clearly displays ALL of the page elements - the header, blog content area, sidebar, and footer - using actual content from the ScottRobertsWeb.com website.
  • All entries must be received by 11:59PM Central Time on June 30, 2012.
  • Again, you may enter as many times as you would like!

I will then carefully look at all entries and choose a winner based on the above criteria (under "What I'm Looking For"), what is esthetically pleasing to me and what would work well for a functional website. As time permits during the first week of July, I will select a winner and notify him or her by e-mail.

So, get crackin' and good luck!

How much would you charge someone if you were to create the same thing for them. $100 plus some hot sauce?
