January 16 is International Hot and Spicy Foods Day

January 16 Is International Hot and Spicy Foods DayFor 2009, January 16 is International Hot and Spicy Foods Day! No one knows exactly how it originated, but it usually falls somewhere in the middle of the first month of the year. So this Friday, be sure to celebrate it by eating some Indian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, or maybe some good ol' fashioned American chili or hot wings...something to warm up a cold January day!

I had no idea this even existed. Is there a governing body or organization that determines this every year>

To be honest with you, I don't who decides what day International Hot and Spicy Foods Day falls on every year. Just doing a Google, I've found that previous years have had it on January 21st and 15th. I'm pretty sure there's no "governing body" or even a dominant voice in the food industry that comes up with this.
