How the Scovie Awards Are Judged Video

name-hereThe exact ways by which the highly visible awards in the fiery foods world - namely the Scovie Awards and ZestFest's Fiery Food Challenge - are judged have been under hot debate between some members of the chilehead community. The means, motives and methods have been claimed by some to be on the side of being less than transparent.

Well, Dave DeWitt, who runs the Fiery Foods & BBQ Show in addition to being in charge of the Scovie Awards, has released a video giving you the behind-the-scenes peek of the judging process for his contest.

The judging of the 17th annual, 2013 Scovie Awards was held at the County Line Restaurant in Albuquerque on October 1, 2012. This is how the judging was conducted.

I love the way Dave said "goodie bag". It is nice to see them give some background on how it is done. Thanks for sharing Scott.

In 2004 the Food Network aired a special that detailed the judging at the Fiery Food Challenge. It was produced by High Noon Productions out of Colorado. It explained the process and interviewed some of the judges and staff. It was called "All Fired Up". It is still shown every now and then on the Cooking Channel. I can verify the content to be true. If you would like to be a judge at the Fiery Food Challenge, contact Judy Furhop at Spicy Food Productions on Facebook and let her know your qualifications.

Very true, John. Personally, Judy's asked me the past couple of years to be a judge. But being a full-time single dad, it's very difficult to take off an extra couple of days in the middle of the week in January just to fly down to Texas and judge. But, yes, ZestFest also has that openness and transparency.

Thanks for posting that Scott. I know I always wondered exactly how it all went down out there. -
