Adam Richman of Man Vs. Food Takes on a Four Chile Burger

On the second season premiere of Man v. Food, host and uper-eater Adam Richman took on the "Four Horseman" Burger at San Antonio's Chunky's Burgers. The beastly sandwich is topped with jalapeno, serrano, habanero and naga bhut jolokia chile peppers. Adam had 25 minutes to down the burger and then had to wait no less than 5 minutes without consuming any milk or ice cream in order to become one of only four people ever to have conquered the Four Horseman. Here's a trailer (the full version is unfortunately not online):

I don't get why this is a big deal. It sounds like just another lunch time snack for me.

Someone ship me out there. lol.

Jonathan, I kind of agree. From the looks of the peppers cooking on the grill, it doesn't look that hot. And he got held up at the first bite? What a lightweight.

Chileman, Jonathan;

You guys obviously have no idea how hot a habanero pepper is. The fact that someone is attempting to eat the bhut jolokia is entertaining/crazy in it of itself.

Go buy yourself one habanero pepper and eat it with some eggs or spaghetti. Tell me how your mouth feels and then how your hands feel.

Steve, I have no need to buy a habanero from the store as I grow orange & chocolate habs in addition to trinidad scorpions, ajis, bhut jolokias, naga morichs, devil's tongue, fataliis, among many, many others in my backyard. I freeze them, dry them, and cook with them so they are an everyday part of my life. To the average person, yes, this Four Horsemen burger would be extremely hot, but to thousands of hardcore chileheads who eat some form of hot sauce or hot chiles everyday this certainly would not stop us in our tracks after only one bite.

Steve you want something hot? Try some DEFCON Zero sauce or Black Mamba or Mongoose from CaJohn's. That'll change your mind real quick about what is super hot and what isn't.

Well said Chileman.

I'm right up the road from San Antonio, so next time I head down that way to visit my friend I'll have to stop by and check that burger out.

Not saying it won't light my ass up, but chances are I've had worse by now....

They don't call us chileheads crazy for no reason.

I agree. It wouldn't be that bad. It would be hot, and I would sweat, but I'd enjoy it. I purchase Red Savina habanero mash and powder straight from the farmer, Jim Campbell.

I bought some jolokia powder from CaJohn at the Jungle Jim hot sauce festival in Cincinnat, OH. It was good, but I'll stick with my Red Savina. They're both chinense peppers, but I prefer the flavor of the Red Savina better. I can just put more on.

In reality, no fresh pepper, mash, powder, or sauce based on fresh, will be as hot as a self-respecting extract sauce. However, those generally taste horrible. That's why I prefer to pile on the fresh. Can't beat the flavor!!!

I think freezedried, powdered, sauced form is a whole different experience than biting into the actual peppers themselves.
