Wingstop Milestone: 1.5 Billion Wings Sold

I came across this press release and found it particularly interesting. We think about burger chains selling in the billions all the time, but what about wing restaurants? How would we even venture a guess at a number that a particular franchise has sold of those tasty chicken parts? Wingstop has helped to provide an answer: one-and-a-half billion in their 650+ locations (there are four that I know about in the St. Louis metro area - one in St. Louis City, two in North County, and one out in O'Fallon, MO).

PRESS RELEASE: DALLAS -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Wingstop, the wing fanatic's favorite chicken wing chain, has achieved two major milestones as it wraps up business for 2008. The Dallas-based chain has now hit 1 million wings sold per day at the same time it has reached the 1.5 billion wings sold mark...

Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein Launches Hot Sauce BrandDoyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, former Misfits guitarist and current leader of horrorcore/metal band Gorgeous Frankenstein, has released his own brand of hot sauce dubbed Made In Hell. Doyle is currently accepting pre-orders on his website. Doyle himself will personally number and autograph the first 100 bottles that are sold.

Doyle's site proclaims about Made In Hell: "With robust flavor and a formidable heat level, this hot sauce is truly MADE IN HELL!" The ingredient list includes vinegar, cayenne peppers, garlic, basil, black pepper, red pepper, salt and other spices.

GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN's debut album was produced by Glenn Danzig and was released through Glenn's label, Evilive. Funny Old Light Bulb Sign

Old Light Bulb Warning Sign

This is a warning sign your great-great-grandparents might have seen if they were in one of the first buildings wired for an electric light bulb: "Do not attempt to light with match." Although it's hard for us to envision a world without electrically simulated incandescent lamps that came on with a flick of a switch, it's hilarious to think that someone might have actually felt the urge to start up a bulb with fire. Especially poignant is the disclaimer at the bottom: "The use of Electricity for lighting is in no way harmful to health, nor does it affect the soundness of sleep."

Death Sauce Creator Expands Extreme Food Chili Pepper Empire - extremefood.com Debuts To Red Hot Chili Fan Reaction

HIGHLANDS, N.J., Dec 04, 2008 /COMTEX/ -- Blair Lazar, widely known as the New Jersey based, worldwide food manufacturer of all things hot, has expanded his chili pepper empire with the completely new extremefood.com. According to Lazar, "the newly revamped extremefood.com website encompasses all that I have learned in the past two decades in the specialty food universe." During that time, Lazar has introduced the world famous Death Sauces and Snacks line (which includes the Death Rain line of kettle cooked spicy potato chips), and its family of products, the Heat line, Blair's Reserves, and the groundbreaking Biocap skin care line. Additionally, Lazar was awarded the Guinness Book Of World Records authentication for "Worlds Hottest" food product.

But for Lazar, it all boils down to taking care of the chili-heads, who wildly embrace Lazar's commitment for a product that breeds passion amongst the capsaicin cognoscenti. And that passion for heat is spreading online, "It's a gathering place of sorts," says Lazar, which is just how he likes it. But the dynamic that catapulted the Death Sauce line to acclaim is Lazar's outgoing personality, and on extremefood.com, it is front and center. "My regular presence there and my commitment to reach out to all the fans daily, is what keeps them coming back," he adds.

Lazar's first fan interaction was to integrate his passion for automotive culture, by posting an image of his new Dodge Challenger up for all to see -- and then he in-turn asked chili fans to send images to him of their own rides -- which were quickly posted. "The shots chili heads sent us are priceless, all sorts of images came back in from people in their Ford pick-up to those in their own jet," says Lazar, but the shot that turned up the heat? "The one of the father in a wheelchair with his young son. This photo moved me in ways I have never felt -- as a dad it affected me more than anything else I have seen in this business." The shot is now on the front page of the images.

Prior to the re-launch, Lazar's interaction with the chili heads was exclusive to his chili-blog and email inbox. That remains, but according to Lazar, "It's so exciting to create new avenues of communication, especially between customers." And that line of communication has opened up other areas of the site, including a Blair's branded TV network of sorts. "The idea for the network started when I began posting clips of my television appearances, automotive culture shorts, and food preparations that I have enjoyed in the past -- now it's evolving into its own presence -- hopefully soon we'll create our own studio in our offices and really build it," exclaims Lazar.

Of course, the newly minted site is packed with the products and presence people have expected from Blair's since day one. A newly revamped shopping cart and extended value for returning chili heads round out the site. "I wanted to make sure that anyone ordering directly from extremefood.com was treated like family, because, after all these years many loyal chili heads certainly are," says Lazar. Also debuting on the site is the Extreme Gear section featuring a wide ranging array of tee's and other Blair's branded merchandise.

I've taken on several kitchen and food-related myths and misconceptions to see if there's any truth to them, including as "Can Hot Sauce Really Clean a Copper Penny?", "Is Margarine is Better for You Than Butter?", "Does Searing Meat Seal in the Juices?", "Does Alcohol Burns Off During Cooking?", "Does Decaffeinated Coffee Actually Contain Caffeine?", "Does Cold Water Boils Faster Than Warm Water?", "Will Pork that is Slightly Pink Will Make You Ill?", "If You Boil Vegetables, Will All the Nutrients Will Be Taken Away?", "Can You Bake a Potato in a Microwave Oven?" and "Does Adding Salt to Water Makes it Boil Faster?" Review: Snyder's of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Pieces

Savory Collection Diablo Hot SauceI'm not a fan of hard pretzels by any stretch of the imagination. Soft ones I can handle, but to me regular hard pretzel twists and sticks are akin to gnawing on salty, overly dry tree branches. The really big hard ones are absolutely horrible - why someone would chew on burnt-bread-flavored rocks that suck all moisture out of your mouth is beyond my comprehension.

Surprisingly, though, Snyder's of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Pieces are these such hard pretzel bites and actually appeal to me. Read on to find out why.

Terrible Fashions of the Swedish Dance Bands

Terrible Fasions of the Swedish Dance BandsHere's a plethora of photos of various Swedish dance bands from the 1970s and '80s. Aside from the obvious humor of their matching outfits and bad hair, it's also interesting to point out that several of these groups are named (presumably) after their lead singer in plural form. It's like calling a band the "The Scott Robertses".
